Mandai Nature is dedicated to advancing efforts on biodiversity conservation in Asia, with a focus on averting species extinction, especially in Southeast Asia by delivering conservation programmes at scale with partners, as well as convening partnerships and collaborative alliances to address critical conservation outcomes. As the conservation arm of Mandai Wildlife Group, we also work closely with the Group to apply holistic conservation approaches by integrating ex situ and in situ conservation action. 

This role will be part of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Regional Resource Centre (RRC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Species Survival Commission (SSC) Conservation Planning Specialist Group (CPSG) hosted by Mandai Nature. It will involve working with internal teams and external conservation partners and stakeholders on diverse species conservation planning projects in Southeast Asia. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the facilitation and coordination of the various CPSG style conservation planning projects taken on by the SEA RRC.
  • Assist to build coordinate a network of conservation planning specialists under the banner of the CPSG SEA RRC.
  • Help promote the utilisation of CPSG tools (risk assessments, population modelling, stragegic planning, etc. ) processes and principles amongst conservation practitioners in SEA.
  • Assist in conducting multi-stakeholder workshops both in-person and using virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams etc.) for species conservation planning.
  • Compile, edit and distribute summaries, reports and written plans which will be results of various meetings and workshops.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Ecology, Wildlife/Biodiversity Conservation, Environmental Sciences or related fields, advanced degrees preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in ecological related projects.
  • Ability to and a passion for working collaboratively with diverse groups of people across multiple backgrounds. Managing relations neutrally with professionalism, empathy, and tact.
  • Training in/experience with designing and facilitating meeting processes, and/or group decision making processes, and/or species planning workshops.
  • High degree of initiative, detail-oriented, creative, with strong analytical, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong in analytical skills and be able to understand multi stakeholder management.
  • Preferred to be trained in CPSG's course in Facilitating Species Conservation Planning Workshop. Increase confidence and competence in facilitation, through 'on the job' mentorship.
  • Project management skills and proven administrative skills would be preferred.
